Insensibility

By Michelle Cioccoloni

This triptych shows three drafts of the poem, highlighting the poet's creative process of reworking.  The pictures on which the drafts are engraved symbolize the soldiers memories of home which kept them going while suffering the terrors of war, but the frames have been turned away from the viewer like those who deliberately turned their backs on the suffering of the soldiers on the front, those who did not want to see, who turned their backs on pity.
