Shropshire Horticultural Society Wilfred Owen tribute in aid of Combat Stress

Date: January 16th 2015

The Shropshire Horticultural Society is hosting a charity event from 6.30pm on Friday 16th January 2015 at St Chad’s Church in Shrewsbury, Shropshire. The event will be an evening tribute to the Shropshire poet Wilfred Owen and will raise funds for Combat Stress, the charity that cares for veterans suffering mental illness following their experiences.

Dr Guy Cuthbertson, the biographer of Wilfred Owen, will speak on Owen and his association with Shropshire.  Paul Crabtree, a British composer now based in California, has been commissioned to set two of Wilfred Owen's poems to music specifically for this event.  These new songs will be performed by Patrick Craig, a professional counter-tenor who sings with the Tallis Scholars and is a Vicar Choral of St Paul's Cathedral Choir, accompanied by pianist Alex Mason, Director of Chapel Music at Shrewsbury School and former Organist of St David's Cathedral.

Tickets are £15 and are available from Quarry Lodge, Shrewsbury, SY1 1RN. For information call: 01743 234052 or email secretary@shrewsburyflowershow.org.uk
