"My Dear Son" - words taken from a letter written in 1916 by a mother to her son fighting in France.
These words are from a German mother who has already lost one son in 1914 and is fearful that her only other son might also be taken from her by the war.
Chester Theatre Club is staging a dramatic reading of a selection of letters and diary entries written by German artist Käthe Kollwitz during 1914 – 1918 to her son, Hans. These letters chart Käthe Kollwitz’s painful coming to terms with her youngest son’s death in Flanders October 1914, her growing pacifism and her struggles to create a sculpture for her own son and all the fallen youth of Europe.
Seating is limited (25) and will be allocated on a first come basis.
