Perhaps the most important voice in contemporary poetry, Seamus Heaney is internationally heralded as one of the leading poets of his generation. He has twice won the Whitbread Book of the Year, for The Spirit Level (1996) and Beowulf (1999). In 1995 he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. Human Chain was awarded the Forward Prize for Best Collection in 2010.
This is a wonderful opportunity to hear Heaney in his own words, as he reads from his award winning collections in this special celebration of the very best of contemporary poetry.
2012 is the 20th anniversary of the Forward Prizes and Seamus Heaney will be joined by former Forward prize-winning poets Jackie Kay, Rachel Boast and Hilary Menos, reading their own work, and by acclaimed novelist Sebastian Faulks, reading the work of some of some late great Forward poets.
