Composer Patrick Hawes has been commissioned to set the words of Wilfred Owens’ unfinished poem ‘I know the music’ as a choral piece in commemoration of WWI and those who lost their lives in defence of their country. Patrick rose to fame when commissioned to write the music for HRH Prince Charles’ 60th Birthday and subsequently to write The Highgove Suite for HRH.
The Royal British Legion, Poppy Appeal Concert in Henley-on-Thames on 8 November 2014, will feature the World Premiere of the new choral music in the presence of Peter Owen, WOA President, and his wife Elizabeth Owen who will be the guests of honour on this special occasion.
The music has been commissioned for this commemorative year 2014 by the Aliquando Choir for the RBL Poppy Appeal, and the dedication reads:
‘Commissioned by Aliquando Choir for the Town of Henley-on-Thames and the wider community in memory of those who served their country in times of war…… and in aid of the Royal British Legion in the presence of special guests and the Mayor of Henley. ’
The concert will be conducted by the composer himself and promises to be a very moving and beautiful event, which it is hoped will be covered by BBC Oxford.
